Snippet Sunday ~ Weekend Writing Warriors 12/7/14

Welcome to my 15th Sunday Snippet ~ Weekend Writing Warriors post! This week’s snippet takes place shortly after last week’s that you can find here. Sarette has just woken up on the beach and is thinking to herself there had to be some mistake…

“I don’t make mistakes.” Elwin sat up and started rubbing his hands together to dust the sand off. “It’s not that I don’t like a damsel in distress as much as the next knight.
But the fainting thing is going to be an unnecessary hindrance so try to not do that anymore.”

“So funny,” I said with fake enthusiasm but then more quietly, “I don’t understand how I can be a fairy or a princess, or a fairy princess. Seriously, I’m just an ordinary human high school student.”

“Actually, its fey princess, I used the more common human term hoping that it might ease the news . . . which it didn’t. And we’ll have to agree to disagree about there not being anything extraordinary about you. In fact,  I think you are one-of-a-kind, Sarette Miller.”

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet! Let me know in the comments below!

Check back in next week for the continuing saga of Meanmna…
(Sorry, I’m having a blast telling the story ten sentences at a time and couldn’t resist.)

Meanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms

Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.

Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world. Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic.

  1. So he doesn’t make mistakes? We’ll see about that . . . or I hope we will! 😀

But his line about fainting (or not fainting) is priceless, Emmy.

  2. “It’s not that I don’t like a damsel in distress as much as the next knight. But the fainting thing is going to be an unnecessary hindrance so try to not do that anymore.”

That made me laugh out loud and now my rats think they should get treats. LOL Great line — I like him!

  3. Clearly he’s got a lot more explaining to do! I really enjoy this story as you’re sharing it with us. Your heroine is trying so hard to be down to earth when apparently she’s anything but! Great 8!

  4. Love the line about the fainting and the banter between them.

  5. What a great opening line … and great dialogue. really starting to like this story 🙂
