Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Snippet 10

Welcome to my tenth Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Snippet Sunday post! If you missed any of the previous posts, you can catch up on my Meanmna ~ #8Sunday page.

A small background detail is needed this week. Sarette’s mom isn’t a fan of the bookstore because… “She hated all that stuff and absolutely forbade me to play around with “things beyond my understanding”, whatever the hell that means.”

What you missed: Nothing! Something just told Sarette, No, in her head.

I put the amazonite down on the table and looked up, “I think I’ll wait until next time for that candle. I don’t feel very good, and well, um, I . . . you know . . . I have to go.”

“Why don’t you take the crystal,” Paige was smiling as she stood in front of me with her little arm holding it up, “It should help you see things beyond your understanding.”

She did not just say that. I didn’t want to start screaming and make a run for it, so I forced a smile and looked at Celine, “How much do I owe you?”

“On the house,” Celine said, “It found you; it’s time.”

I’m not going to ask what time it is; I’m sure it’s not time to get ill. I’m going to have to find a new magic store when I get out of the loony bin.

No, I heard in my head, a little more forcefully this time so I took the crystal ignoring the buzz I felt.

“Um, thanks. I guess I’ll see you soon,” my hands shook as I opened the door and headed to the street looking in all directions.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet! Let me know in the comments below!

Check back in next week for Weekend Writing Warriors ~ Snippet 11 of Meanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms!

But, if you can’t wait for next week…

Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.

Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world.

Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic.

  1. I wish I got free stuff from stores…hee hee. This one is still on my to-read list, coming up next after my current read.

  2. “It’s time.” Something big is about to her. Someone needs to tell her something before she snaps. Great scene. 🙂

  3. Nice snippet. Did i miss the reason why she got the crystal for free or will we find out soon?

  4. This is so mysterious. Still I wonder how she can go to a magic shop and not believe in anything out of the ordinary and think she is crazy for it. I hope she will be back soon, the woman definitely has answers.

  5. I am really loving this! I have the book on my Kindle, just need to find time to sit down and read, but the way thins are going that’s shaping up to not happen until May… *sigh*

  6. Something tells me she’s in way over her head. Things beyond your understanding – not something safe to mess around with, methinks! This is fun – I like it.

  7. “She did not just say that.” LOL. Well, actually, I’m quite sure she did just say that. I love this, it’s so interesting and mysterious. I can’t wait to see how it goes. What’s the voice saying “no” to? And I still want this magic shop near me somewhere!
