Sunday Snippet ~ Weekend Writing Warriors 11/16/14

Welcome to my twelfth Sunday Snippet ~ Weekend Writing Warriors post! This week’s snippet takes place immediately after last week’s that you can find here. Elwin just asked Sarette if she would like to know why he wore a Phish shirt; she said yes and . . .

He took a stick out of his pocket and turned toward the water, raised his arms out in front of him and then said something in a language I didn’t recognize. He lowered his hands, put the stick in his pocket, and cast me a quick look before he walked out on the water–not in the water—on top of the water.

My jaw dropped open.

He was only about ten feet out when he stopped and turned around.  He laughed a little when he noticed my shocked expression and asked, “Can you guess how I did that, or what I am? By the way, your awed face is pretty darn cute.” Then he mimicked me with wide eyes and his mouth formed in an “o” shape.

I shook my head in reply to his question.

He gently waved his arms at his sides, and little waves started moving away from him on either side of where he was standing creating what looked like a catwalk from him to the shore.

They totally have their version of Top Model here.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet! Check back in next week… the big reveal is coming soon. But if you can’t wait…

Meanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms

Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.

Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world. Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic.

  1. Cute scene Emmy. I could picture it clearly. Next time though, please try to keep to eight sentences, so we keep it all short and sweet, and everyone can get to all the blogs in a timely manner. Thanks. : )

  2. Oh, someone’s sure of himself, isn’t he?

Not that I blame him in the least! 😀

I’m really enjoying this scene, Emmy!

  3. Lovely scene. I’d probably look stunned as well seeing someone walking on water 🙂

  4. Now that was a fantastic scene, loved the walking on water. It took me a moment to get the Top Model reference though – catwalk makes me think of scaffolding over a stage or something *first*….I think partly that’s because we’re only getting to read in snippets. I know this is the character’s voice so if I was reading right along with her, I’d have gotten it. But the water walking was AMAZING.
