Welcome to another Meet My Character Monday Post! Today I’m going to introduce you to Ethan & Meghan the Fire fey rulers.

1.) What is the name of your characters?

Ethan and Meghan Conner, rulers of the Fire fey realm, Bienn-Theine.

2.) When and where is the story set?

You first meet Ethan and Meghan in Meanmna with Sarette. This is that first meeting…

We rode hard all afternoon to Bienn-Theine Forest. There were two older fey waiting inside along the tree line when we approached. They stepped out into the sunlight as Elwin and I slowed our mounts.
Oh, my Goddess! I was looking at Mathew in fifty years. This couple had to be his grandparents. Mathew looked exactly like his grandfather: same build, same hair, and same face. I’m not sure what came over me—perhaps I hadn’t realized how much I missed Mathew—but I didn’t even wait until the horse completely stopped before I jumped off and ran into their outstretched arms and said, “You’re Mathew’s grandparents!” They both nodded, but they were so swept up they couldn’t speak.

3.) What should we know about them?

They are Mathew’s long lost grandparents and the grandparents of George, who has turned dark. This the first time Mathew sees his grandparents and George.

The last fifty feet before the castle opened up, and I could see clear through to the stairs where the group of fey was waiting. Nessa was left of center, and standing next to her was her brother, George, who had the same bright red hair, dark eyes, and a pale complexion. On the right were Sarette and Elwin, and in the center were my grandparents, Ethan and Meghan. For the second time in five minutes, I felt my heart swell with emotion. I looked just like my grandfather, and my grandmother was crying and holding onto him for support.
Smok put her hand up in some type of signal and the guards changed formation around us. The ones in front of us parted and went in opposite directions to clear my way to my family. Smok and Will both shifted to flank me and Lilly. We stopped ten feet away, and my grandmother broke away and nearly flew down the steps toward us. I swung my legs over the side of my horse and jumped down. By the time my feet touched the ground she had thrown her arms around me and was sobbing into my chest.
I put my arms around her and whispered, “I love you too, Grandma.”
She sobbed louder, and soon I felt another set of arms around me. I looked up and saw it was my grandfather. He too was crying. After a minute of holding each other we separated slightly. My grandfather looked over to George and Nessa and waved them over.
“Cuz,” Nessa shouted and jumped down the stairs to me. I picked her up and squeezed tightly. “Wish me luck,” she whispered before I set her down. “I’ll catch you soon.” She punched me hard in the stomach, then faced George, “Try to be nice, George, maybe you can work it out.” She punched him in the stomach too, then ran past him into the castle. He looked after her, curling his lip.
George walked down the steps and stood a few feet away from me. He crossed his arms over his chest and was looking me up and down with a sneer on his face. The red hair, dark eyes, and pale complexion were where the similarities to Nessa ended. He was taller than me by a couple of inches, broader, and more muscular too. The very air felt different around him, like someone had rubbed a balloon all over my body and now every hair was standing on end.
I matched his stance and stared back, un-focusing my gaze slightly so I could see his aura. It was red but I could see small streaks of black in it. I re-focused and matched his sneer. “I guess a heartfelt embrace for your long lost cousin isn’t going to happen.”
George huffed and gave me an icy glare. “You will not take away my position for ascension. You should walk away now, unless you are anxious to die.”
“That’s enough.” Grandpa stepped closer. “Now is not the time.”
“George, honey, why don’t you go take a drive and to clear your head? There is a way to work this all out without me losing a grandchild.”
“You’re so naïve, Grandma.” George shook his head like he had been scolding a child.
“She isn’t only your grandmother, she’s mine too and you will respect her.” I stepped closer. George reacted by pulling out a monstrous broadsword that looked like it weighed fifty pounds. He swung it in a wide arc towards my neck, and I pulled both my sword and spirit blade. My heart racing, I caught his sword between them and pushed him back.
George looked surprised for a moment; then he laughed, but it was one of those evil laughs from a classic B sci-fi flick.
“Seriously?” I asked, and he stopped laughing. “You sound ridiculous, how am I supposed to take you seriously when you laugh like that?”

4.) What is the main conflict? What is the personal goal of the characters?

Daearen has been in conflict for a very long time. They lost both their sons, Mathew’s dad and Nessa and George’s dad, and their daughter-in-laws years earlier. They only learn that Princess Penelope/Peggy/Mama was not lost as thought during Meanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms and that they have a surviving grandchild, Mathew. They want nothing more than to see and end to the fighting and to live the rest of their lives in peace. Unfortunately, their grandchild has turned dark and in order to save the realm they must stand against him.

Well, that’s it for this week! I hoped you enjoyed meeting Ethan and Meghan, unfortunately, I can’t say too much about them without ruining the story for you. But they are vitally important to the survival of Daearen so you will read a lot more about them throughout the series! Or Ethan and Meghan’s story starts in…

Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.

Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world. Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic.
