Welcome to my seventh Sunday Snippet ~ Weekend Writing Warriors Post! This week’s snippet follows last week’s snippet which you can find here.

Sarette has joined Mathew in the kitchen. He just told her about how great his date was and then asked if she’d go with them to the movies. As Sarette complains about being the third wheel, she thinks of Elwin and…

“You’re blushing, did you meet a guy?” Mathew rambled on without letting me answer, “Was he a college guy; Siena Heights, Adrian, football, track, frat. . . come on, you have to give me something!”

What could I say? Yeah, I met a guy last night! He’s a knight, sent by my long lost family to retrieve me for some inner dimensional journey fraught with danger and I’m not sure if we’ll be back by next Saturday. Or if we will have time for trivialities such as dating, but I can check to see if he wants to go to a movie with us!

I decided to employ a tactic that works with Mathew: change the subject to something that annoys him or flatters him or both, “Are you sure you’re not on human growth hormones? ’Cause you’re looking pretty ripped dude.”

“So, what’s his name?”

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet!

Next week, back to Elwin and the crystal, but if you can’t wait for next week…

Meanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms

meanmnasmall
Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.
Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world. Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic.
