Snippet Sunday ~ Weekend Writing Warriors 9-21

wewriwa_square_2Welcome to my fourth Sunday Snippet ~ Weekend Warriors Post! This week’s snippet takes place shortly after last week’s snippet that you can find here (X marks the spot). (Did you know that Friday was Talk Like a Pirate Day?)

Okay, Sarette has just confessed; to feeling crazy, that she was given the crystal she cut herself on at the bookstore she’s not allowed in, meeting Elwin, and to what he said about her family wanting to see her.

Mom pursed her lips and tilted her head a little to the left, “And then?”

“Well, then I freaked out.”

“Did Elwin say anything else,” she asked calmly—a little too calmly.

I started picking at the frayed edge of my sweater, “He said that when I’m ready he can help me understand what’s been going on and who I really am.”

“It’s not time yet,” mom mumbled under her breath.

“What?”

“Nothing—” she slid her chair back and stood up “—when you decide, Elwin will know and find you. Go get your purse so you can show me your crystal.”

I did as she asked, and when I returned to the kitchen she wasn’t there, but there was a note on the table that read: Sarette, I need to think before we talk, try not to make any decisions tonight, love you.

I picked up the note and underneath it was a crystal that looked just like mine.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s snippet! Let me know what you think in the comments below. Check in next week for more! But if you can’t wait until next week…

meanmnasmallMeanmna: Book One of the Daearen Realms

Seventeen-year-old Sarette has always thought of her life as average, even a bit boring. She does well in school, has a loving mother and a loyal best friend, Mathew. Of course, she has her problems as well—cold Michigan winters, a long-lost father she knows nothing about, and the lack of a boyfriend. She also has the vague sensation that she is being watched by some unseen entity, but figures that means she’s average and crazy.

Nothing could be further from the truth . . .

Daearen isn’t much different than the human world. Imagine a world where science is replaced with magic. Available at Amazon and Smashwords!
